(IT) Architecture and architectural thinking in IT started a number of years ago to ensure that IT systems could become easier to move along with the development of the business. The business complained of inadequate IT systems and long-term IT projects. IT departments felt that the business did not quite know what she wanted. In short there is a gap between IT and business.
The continuous dialogue with the business is a clear added value of architectural thinking. Here arises a better picture of what the business in the medium and long-term objective. The ambition and ability to predict the future make this dialogue difficult. Indeed, almost no one predicted the credit crisis and the developments had after the takeover of ABN AMRO can provide. This means that architects in their work have to find a balance between prediction or modify architectures (predict or adjust).
